HS Graduation Cord Criteria

Graduation Cord Criteria

The final determination on graduation cords is made by the respective department and administration.

English

Maintain an A in at least 3 of 4 English courses, with a minimum of B in the 4th.
Complete three (3) AP/CE/Honors English courses, earning at least a 4 on AP Lang or AP Lit and enrolling in a second AP course.
Participate in at least one leadership or enrichment opportunity, such as Creative Writing, Lit & Film, Peer Tutoring, Yearbook Editor, or SVA Literary Magazine (President/VP or 3+ published works).

History

Maintain an A in at least 3 of 4 History courses, with a minimum of B in the 4th.
Complete three (3) AP/Honors History courses, earning at least a 4 on one AP exam and a 3 on subsequent AP exams (e.g., AP World, AP US History, AP Psychology, or AP US Gov).
Participate in at least one leadership or enrichment opportunity, such as 40+ hours of social studies tutoring, National History Day competitions, or passing the National History Day elective course.

Mathematics

Maintain an unweighted 3.8 GPA in all University High School math courses, including any online math course (excluding Discrete Math).
Complete three (3) or more AP/Honors Math courses, earning a 4+ on the AP Calc AB exam and a B+ or better in Calc BC.
Complete four (4) or more AP/Honors Math courses, earning 4+ on all AP math exams and a B or better in Calc BC.
Engage in at least one leadership or enrichment opportunity, such as Peer Tutoring (2 years), Mu Alpha Theta, or competitions.

Science

Maintain an A in at least 3 of 4 Science courses, with a minimum of B in the 4th.
Complete three (3) AP/Honors Science courses, including the Science Career Internship course.
Participate in at least one leadership or enrichment opportunity, such as Peer Tutoring, Science Fair, or Research Internship.

World Language

Maintain an A average in a World Language course. (Latin, French, Spanish, ASL) from 9th-12th grade).
Participated in four (4) years of World Language courses or as many years as is offered at SVA
Engage in at least one leadership or enrichment opportunity, such as AP, TA, WL, Peer Tutoring, JCL, Language Club, National Language Honor Society, or Language Club (per teacher recommendation).

Performing Arts

Maintain an A in all Performing Arts courses (Choir, Band, and/or Theatre).
Participate in Choir and/or Band for four years.
Engage in at least one leadership or enrichment opportunity, such as All-State, Honors Festivals, or Solo Ensemble.

Visual Arts

Maintain an A in all Arts courses.
Complete 7 semesters of Art coursework.
Engage in at least one leadership or enrichment opportunity, such as AP Studio Art or Art Showcase.

Theatre Arts

Maintain an A in all Theatre Arts courses.
Participate in 6 of 8 productions or National qualifiers for the show missed.
Attend the ThesCon Conference at least once.

Technology

Maintain an A in all technology courses, with the exception of one B in an AP course.
Complete five (5) semesters of Technology (Computer Science or Yearbook).
Participate in one AP course or hold a Yearbook leadership role (editor, assistant editor).
Engage in at least one enrichment opportunity, such as Tech Assistant, Science Fair Project, Computer Science Competition, or Senior Video.

Athletics

Participate in at least one sport per year and earn a varsity letter in at least two years.
Receive at least one league/state recognition (Honorable Mention, First/Second Team), team award (MVP, Hawk Award), and/or be named a varsity team captain.

Community Service

Complete at least 160 hours of community service.
Attend a majority of class activities (class events, spirit squad events, and athletic games), determined at SVA Leadership's discretion.

Honors

Graduate with a 3.75+ overall weighted GPA.

Graduation Details

We are excited to hold our graduation ceremony at Halftime Help Stadium, 3270 Redstone Park Cir, Highlands Ranch, CO 80129, on Saturday, May 16th, 2026, at 10:30 a.m.

Please take a moment to read over the following information to help plan accordingly.

This is an outdoor event. Please dress appropriately.

Graduates must be at the stadium at 8:00 am
Guests can start checking in at 9:30 am
All guests MUST be registered on the 2025 Graduation Registration Form (the deadline to add guests is tbd).
Guests who are NOT registered will not be able to come into the stadium and will be asked to watch via live stream (the link will be sent in a separate email).
No concession stands will be open or available.
No food or drink on the field – Water Only
No sunflower seeds in the stadium.
No tobacco products or alcohol are allowed on school district property.
No pets are allowed in the stadium except service dogs.

Parking

In order to allow enough parking for all guests and graduates, we ask that as few cars be driven as possible. Please try to carpool.
Please park in the designated parking area located to the south of the stadium. Turn south on Commerce Center Street from West Town Center Drive. Turn left into the parking lot.

Senior Updates

Graduation Cap and Gown Ordering Information
We’re officially kicking off the graduation season! This week, our seniors attended a meeting with Nils Erickson from Jostens, where they received important information about graduation, including how to order caps and gowns, announcements, senior rings, and more. Each senior is required to purchase a cap, gown, and tassel (the cap & gown only option comes with a tassel). Seniors are permitted to wear a sibling or alumni gown, provided it was used in a SkyView graduation and ordered from Jostens.

Senior Reserved Parking Spots
These will be available via MySchoolBucks in the school store. An additional email will be sent with the date that the store will open. The Senior Reserved Parking Spot comes with a permit, so you will only need to purchase one option. Senior Reserved Parking Spots are optional and only available to seniors. However, ALL student drivers must have a parking permit.

Please fill out the Student Parking Registration form with your car information (required for either option)
Please fill out the Reserved Parking Spot Agreement
All designs must be submitted to Mrs. Dove by Wednesday, September 3rd, for approval.

Senior Sunrise
Saturday, September 6, 2025, on the large turf, from 5:45 am - 7:00 am. Students can bring blankets and games, such as spike ball.

Senior Painting of Reserved Spots
Saturday, September 6, 2025, from 8 am - 11:00 am - students are responsible for bringing their own paint and painting supplies. In the past, students have brought inexpensive rollers and paint brushes that can be discarded at the end of painting. Students have used different types of paint, and they all seem to hold up the same. A suggestion would be to go to a local paint or hardware store and ask the paint department. Special paint, UV paint, and sealants can also be purchased from Amazon.

Senior Quote
Due December 3, 2025. This quote will be used in the yearbook and at the graduation slideshow. A form will be sent to all seniors.

Senior Memory Block For Yearbook
Open for purchase via MySchoolBucks on September 9, 2025. The sale will end February 4, 2026.

Senior Lock-In
January 16 - January 17, 2026, 9:00 pm (after the end of the basketball game) - 6:30 am.

Senior Day/ Senior Walk
Monday, May 11, 2026, 2:30 pm - 2:45 pm. Seniors will walk the halls of SkyView with their cap & gown, and parents, family, and friends are welcome to come and meet seniors on the big turf to celebrate.

Senior Awards Dinner
Thursday, May 14, 2026. Price TBA per guest (please plan on $70+ per guest), Senior students are free. This is an SVA unique tradition that allows us to celebrate our seniors and all of their accomplishments. This is a semi-formal dinner held at the Inverness Hotel. Each senior is allowed 4 guests.

Graduation
Saturday, May 16, 2026, 10:30 am at Half Time Help Stadium (previously known as Shea Stadium) in Highlands Ranch. Seniors will need to arrive at the stadium by 8 am for rehearsal. An unlimited number of guests are allowed. However, limited parking is available, so we ask that each family do their best to carpool. An email with more details will be sent in April.
