The Governance Committee consists of two separate sub-committees and each has a Board member liaison. They are the Board Election Sub-Committee and the Board Policy Sub-Committee.
1. Board Election Sub-Committee Charge
SVA’s Bylaws state that the regular Board Elections shall be held in the spring. The Board Election Committee coordinates the entire election process, from recruiting candidates to the election itself. During an election year, this committee meets regularly. The Board invites all interested candidates to apply. Here are some important notes to remember:
- Candidates must be philosophically aligned with the mission and vision of SVA and value the PK-12 culture of our school.
- Candidates must attend/observe at least one regular Board meeting before the election. The Board meets on the third Wednesday of most months at 5:00 p.m. in room 204.
- Candidates must be in good standing with their volunteer hours and student fees payments.
- Candidates will be asked to interview first with the Board Election Committee.

2. Board Policy Sub-Committee Charge
Ensure Board Policy Manual is created, and updated regularly in coordination with the Head of Schools. Ensure that updated policies are published and accessible to the community. If policy changes are suggested by staff, students, or parents, this committee will hear those suggestions and make a recommendation to the Head of Schools and ultimately, the Board.
