Elementary School/PreK Updates

No Tech November

The goal of this initiative is to encourage our children to engage in non-digital activities, focus on creativity, foster meaningful connections, and explore the world around them without the distractions of technology. During No-Tech November, we encourage students to participate in activities such as reading books, playing board games, creating art, spending time outdoors, and enjoying family time. We hope that by reducing screen time, students will gain new skills, develop their imagination, and strengthen their relationships with family and friends.

We understand that technology is an integral part of our daily lives, and it has its place in education. However, this initiative aims to provide a balanced approach and to emphasize the importance of face-to-face interactions and hands-on experiences.

We ask for your support in encouraging participation at home. Engaging in conversations about the benefits of spending time without screens can help reinforce these values. Click the calendar below for the challenge calendar. Each day on the calendar suggests an activity that does not involve devices. Students do not need to do that activity. They can participate in any activity of their choosing, technology-free. Parents, your job is to initial the days your student is technology-free at home.

Students must turn in their calendars to their homeroom teacher with their name on it by Tuesday, December 2, to earn a Dress of Choice pass and a free book from Mrs. Lilly if they were technology-free for at least 25 days in November.

Thank you for your continued support. Please send me pictures of all of your fun November activities. Let’s make this November a month filled with creativity and connection!

Battle of the Books Season is Coming!

Battle of the Books Student/Parent Informational Meeting is:
Wednesday, September 17th at 3:45 pm
in the Elementary Library

Are you in 3rd, 4th, 5th or 6th grade?  Do you love to read?  Do you enjoy getting together with classmates to talk about the books you are reading?  Do you get excited about friendly competition? If you answered yes, then Battle of the Books is for YOU!!

Battle of the Books is a book-related competition for students in grades 3-6.  Teams of students read the same set of ten titles and will compete against other schools in the district by answering questions about the books.

All interested students should begin reading from the  Battle of the Books list- we are waiting for the release of the list. I will share the list with the participating grades when the list is available. Students are allowed to check out one book at a time - I only have 2 copies of each title. The books are also available at the Douglas County Public Libraries.

SkyView’s District Battle of the Books (BOTB) Program

Students are invited to try for a place on the SkyView Academy team by taking the qualifying test on Wednesday, November 12th, at 3:30  in the Elementary Library.  The test should take about 30 minutes, and students will head out to the carline for pick up when done. The highest-scoring seven students in grades 3 & 4 and 5 & 6 will be selected to represent SkyView in the district battles. The team will compete against other schools in the district at the Lone Tree  Public Library during January, February, and March. We encourage the students trying out for this team to read ALL 10 books for their grade level team. The test is 20 questions with 2 questions per book.

We’re looking forward to another fantastic season of Battle of the Books! Happy Reading!
