English Language Development
At SkyView Academy, we truly believe that “The beauty of the world lies in the diversity of its people” (Author Unknown). We are proud to be multicultural and one of the most diverse schools in Douglas County, representing forty countries. Being multilingual is an asset in today’s world, and we encourage our families to use their native languages at home and share their cultural traditions with their teachers and classes. Exposure to different cultural perspectives strengthens all of our students’ capacity for empathy and understanding, enhancing our school as a whole.
Featured Service Models at SkyView
The ELD Team at SkyView (also known as ESL) uses various service models to support multilingual learners (MLs). We serve students using an inclusion model that ensures students receive the majority of English language support in the general education classroom.
- Pull-Out: In Pull-Out ELD, multilingual learners (MLs) temporarily experience targeted or intensive ELD instruction outside the regular classroom setting according to their specific linguistic needs.
- Push-In: In Push-In ELD, MLs experience targeted support inside the regular classroom setting according to their specific linguistic needs.
- Sheltered Content Courses: Sheltered Content Courses can be taken by secondary students who do not have the linguistic capacity to be successful in the typical content courses. Courses such as ESL English and ESL Elective are offered to meet these needs.
- Co-teaching: Co-teaching pairs the ELD and content teacher to collaborate on instruction tailored to both the linguistic and academic needs of MLs.

ELD Student Testimonial
I tried my best in everything, but there is one teacher without whom I could not have succeeded. Her name is Mrs. Schmitz. She helped me with absolutely everything.
